University of New Hampshire Patient Experiences

The Garrison Players is honored to again be selected by the University of New Hampshire to assist in simulated patient experiences for graduate students studying at the University of New Hampshire.  We are looking for a variety of actors.  Performance dates and details provided below.   Character breakdowns and scenario details will be provided once selected, however some improv is also required.  This is a paid opportunity.

October 4th 10am – 2pm:  Seeking three actors: 2 Females 40 – 50, and 1 child 8 – 10 years old. 

October 9th 8:30 – 12 and 1:30 – 5 & October 10th 8:30 – 12:  Seeking two actors age range 30 – 50.  Sex is flexible. Must be available for both dates.  

October 11th 10am – 3pm:  Seeking two actors:  1 Female 20 – 30, one male 50 – 60. 

October 30th 8:30 – 12 and 1:30 to 5 & October 31 8:30 – 12:  Seeking three actors.  1 Male 55 – 65, 1 Female 40 – 50 with Spanish accent, and 1 male 20 – 25.  Must be available both days.

November 28th 8:30 – 12 and 1:30 – 5 & November 29th 8:30 – 12:  Seeking three actors.  1 Female 30 – 50.  1 Male 40 – 50 and 1 patient any adult age and sex.    

To be eligible, actors must have transportation to a from the Durham, NH area, prior experience in acting and improv as well as a comfort level being physically examined by Nursing students for minor aliments.  Location is on the main campus of UNH in Durham, NH. There will be an additional rehearsal of 1 hour to be scheduled with the Program Director to discuss the character you will be playing, and provide additional background information and details on logistics of the simulated patient experience. This can be completed virtually or in person depending on individual location and availability of actors.

Auditions will consist of a prepared one minute monologue in addition to cold readings from the script. 

Please bring a headshot and resume with you to the audition as well as a list of conflicts for the duration of the rehearsal/show period.

Rehearsals will be held Tuesday and Thursdays from 630 - 9:00pm and Sundays from 6:00 - 10:00pm beginning November 29th

January 20 and 27 @ 2:00pm

 

Character Descriptions

All roles are available.  Age ranges are open. 

 

Amanda Wingfield:  Tom and Laura's Mother.  "A little woman of great but confused vitality clinging frantically to another time and place.  She is fiercely devoted to her children and desperately holds onto the ideals of her genteel southern upbringing.

Laura Wingfield:  Amanda's Daughter.  She is sensitive and painfully shy.  A childhood illness has left her physically impaired and she escapes from harsh reality through her collection of glass figurines.

Tom Wingfield:  Amanda's Son and narrator of the play.  He is a poet who works in a shoe warehouse to support his family, but is searching for a way to escape. 
Jim O'Connor:  The Gentleman Caller.  He is Tom's only friend at the warehouse and former classmate of Laura's.  He is a nice guy who is pleasant in appearance and demeanor.  "A nice, ordinary, young man."
